There is a rumor currently circulating on the Internet about the fact that the expiry date of your domain name could affect how well your site is ranked by Google, the rumor was given more legitimacy because was reportedly mentioned in a patent awarded to Google in April 2006.
This move was said to be part of the move to foil keyword and other spammers who uses a domain name for a very short period, once the domain is blacklisted, a new domain is then registered and used to Spam.

The moral of the story is that if possible, register or renew your domain name for a maximum possible number of years to get more ‘web creed’ in the eye of search engines especially Google.
