Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Many new visitors to UK Webmaster World forums who are also new to the world of Webmastering often as what a forum is and what it can do for them or their website. One of such newbies was persuaded to write and article on what a Webmaster Forum is to her after becoming a regular UK Webmaster World forum member. Here article follows.

A webmaster forum is a place for websites owners to come together and figure things out in order to help improve their online business. It serves as a community where people feel free to discuss and share their thoughts on a host of different issues that may affect webmasters. In addition, the best webmaster forums have different sections where various aspects of website ownership can be discussed. Whether it is a discussion about hosting, or a person needs advice on how to promote a website, a webmaster forum is the place to get that sort of information.

A successful webmaster forum is one that offers everything a website owner is looking for. It helps to have all the applicable resources in one place, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time searching around on the Internet. There are many things that a webmaster must be aware of in order to run a successful Internet business. There are worries about content, concerns over search engine traffic, and the occasional problems that might arise with payment processing. A good webmaster forum has a section for all these things and much more. There, experienced and inexperienced webmasters can come together to learn, share, and expand their creative base.

A webmaster forum can only be considered a failure, if it doesn’t meet the needs of its visitors. This can be determined largely by the people who frequent the website. A group of seasoned, savvy web professionals can add a lot to the atmosphere at a webmaster forum. On the flip side of that, people who don’t take things seriously can negatively impact the overall feel of the community. There must be a sense of trust that permeates the forum or else it won’t have much value.

What other considerations must be in place to make a good webmaster forum? In short, it has to always be in tune with the needs and wants of the people who make it go. Because the online business world is always changing, there is much need for an ever-changing webmaster forum. This type of community will feature people who both actively learn and teach other people about the changes. In addition to that, a good webmaster forum must feature a trustworthy community where people feel comfortable with exchanging services and paying for things. These things all combine to create a great place for idea exchange.

Link Baiting - Lets others build backlinks for you

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Link baiting can be one of the most powerful forms of marketing on the internet, not only does it drive highly interested and targeted traffic to your website, but it also has endless potential in terms of Search Engine Optimization. Matt Cutts (Google) once said that Link Baiting was anything “interesting enough to catch people’s attention”.
Link baiting is just one of the many forms of marketing online which has become a popular and important tool for many webmasters. It allows your links or information to be spread around the internet by other people, thus creating huge numbers of links and driving traffic to your website. In terms of SEO, Link Baiting can give you a huge advantage over your competitors by creating vast numbers of good quality inbound links.
There are so many different types of Link Baiting that it can be used effectively by almost any website. With a good news story that is genuinely interesting you can garner yourself and your website huge amounts of attention. Your article can spread like wildfire on social bookmarking sites like Digg whilst your links will be posted on a number of sites.
Informational products or articles are also extremely effective with link baiting strategies, if you can create genuinely valuable information for the reader your information will spread around the internet and often the links gained from the article will be from authority sites and highly ranked directories.
Creating a website that is controversial, funny, or just interesting, can be an extremely easy thing to do, and also offers you a creative outlet which can provide you with great enjoyment. If you have an existing site, highlight the best content and use it to bring visitors to your website. By spreading your most valuable or interesting information around, your links will soon spread rapidly around the internet.
One of the best examples of Link Baiting you will see comes from the blog of Shoemoney (an extremely popular online marketer). He wrote a post about George Bush entitled” George Bush – Great President Or Greatest President Ever?” in which he showed great admiration towards the president.
All he did was link to George Bush’s Wikipedia page, but can you imagine how many hits that page received just from Shoemoney’s link baiting? He made an extremely controversial post which a number of people feel very passionate about, and then put an external link in the article. He could have put any link at all and probably made money just from this simple piece of link baiting.
If you have a website on a particular topic, try to make sure that if any news comes up relating to your topic, your site is one of the first to show it. By doing this you will probably rank well in Google for that particular news story.
From then on if someone wants to include news on their site, they will probably end up linking to you after following the Google trail.

Expiring domain name - solution to domain name shortages

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Having the right domain name is crucial to your website SEO success, you need to choose a domain name that is not only brandable but reflects you business and the image you are trying to portray. Becauye most good domain name in the popular domain name extensions are virtually gone, most creative webmaster resort to stalking expiring domain name. One such webmaster is RiveWire a member of UK Webmaster Forum, in a post he described how he struck gold by snapping up a domain name before it expired.

A short excerpts from RiverWire post follows:

Expiring Domains ? I found that if you really do your homework on some sites and catch them at the right time you can really get a fantastic site.

Recently i brought a domain that i was interested in but wasn’t sure about, it was very close to being deleted and was in the auctions over at Godaddy, i looked into it a little more and found it was PR4 with PR4 inner pages. To my surprise it also had 3000 back links from other related good quality sites.

So i thought about it a little and done the normal fake page rank check, internet archive check etc. The PR wasn’t showing as valid or fake, it was just showing that that google had no cached history of the site

What did i do ? i went and brought it ! yep thats right i brought it, even though there was a possibility that the backlinks would be deleted by the time i got it and the PR would disappear or turn out to be fake, in the end i paid around £100 for it.
