    Default Linux on the NYSE

NYSE announces new trading system with Linux inside

The New York Stock Exchange announced its new TradeWorks trading system today, though portions of the system have been in place for months. Described as an "Extreme Availability" system by IBM, it includes up to 3,000 -- 650 are already in use on the floor of the NYSE -- custom made wireless handheld devices used by floor brokers. The handhelds talk to Linux-based workstations, which in turn talk to HP servers, and they speak to IBM Z-series mainframes running a DB2 backend.

Not bad for a "MS OWNED" kind of software, as some still call Linux... I guess they've chosen the technical superiority instead of better marketing...

Most people dont like MS, just because of thier unethical business paractices and the fact they make crap, I dare you to find a MS prog that dosnt have a better open source alternative.

I got all respect for successful, (Long Term, etc.) bussiness such as IBM, Novell, etc. that not only recognised the benefits of Open Source, not only they did not try to destroy it, but they embraced it! They understood that betting on people, on what moves an thrills them, such as the ideea of Freedom, of Openness of humanity in the end it's a much better bet than the one made on their own greed and narrowmindedneess. I don't have respect for a company who's only advantage is a monopolistic position. You keep saying Linux is this and that, MS RULZ and stuff like that... but you forget one thing: MS has Linux in it's labs and it is studying it really hard to unedrstand what makes it tick... You know what: they'll never see what makes it tick, because it's all in the heart and minds of all those who contributed with their time, effort and love for freedom to it. Linux is not just an OS. Linux is a revolution, a new way of thinking and behaving.

Paul for me MS is not an issues. It's a non-issue if you want, I really don't care about them as much as you would think. If I post news about Linux it's because I love Linux, not because I hate Windows.

Ok you want me to prove it,here goes, windows is still using the original shell for windows 95 as the base of XP 2000 etc, that prog has had thousands of vulnerabilities and flaws discovered over the years, most of which arnt patched but microsoft still uses them,
also, i have run numerous networks and when I had a windows server I normally had to reboot from twice a week to once a day,
When using a linux system I have only had to reboot once, and that was to install new hardware.
Point 3 I have a Linux laptop with a 1GH P3 chip, I get a faster framerate running Unreal tournament on that than I do on a 2.6GH P4 running windows.

Plus I can penetrate a windows system in about a fifth the time it would take me to do a linux system (WANT ME TO DEMONSTRATE?)

but lets just put it to the people.
