Default Holy crap, I'm in dmoz

I simply can't believe it. I wonder when it happened because I only applied about 8 or 9 months ago.

Hang low, Duke. You now have a Mother ship. Let her drydock for a few months before starting a fleet.

You can now start building new sites, money-making ones, which you can slowly (And I MEAN SLOWLY) link to.

What you do now is, find about hundred or so (More if you please) topics, which relate to your mother ship's main theme. Once you've done this, search for affiliate programs, through reputable networks, to build those money making sites around. Host those mini-sites on multiple servers. Make the sites quickly, but don't link to them quickly. Maybe one per quarter/6 months.

There you have it, in three years you can quit your day job.

I expect my cut of all future proceeds.

    30%?

Thanks for the info here guys, very helpful!

Paul, I'm not sure about the 30% but, if I can actually quit my dayjob at that time I'll maybe pay for your ticket and take you skiing at Whistler/Blackholm, or boarding if you prefer.

To be honest with you all, I submitted my site about two or three months after going online. I made sure that I had as much new content on the main page as possible, Family Friendly status, as many "like-minded" link partners as possible, and helpful content in my forums. Whether or not this is the reason I ever got listed, I'll never know.

I also posted a few stupid questions in the dmoz forums asking God only knows what, only to feel like an idiot. During this time, I was trying to get listed in as many reputable directories as possible such as Gimpsy, All Links, Family Friendly, Orange Pages, etc. I'm not really sure why I got listed but I've been pretty lucky with all of my listings to date. Many of the directories had me listed in under a few days, some that day, and a few even created a new category for me, it was all truly great!

I used to check my backlinks regularily but gave it up as Google started listing them stupidly and putting posts where my site was mentioned ahead of actual link exchange partners with good PR. The funny thing is, I noticed that I was listed in all these obscure directories I'd never heard of, many not even English language directories. A few of them had ODP mentioned somewhere so I may have actually been in dmoz for the last several months rather than just a recent addition.

Sorry, none of this makes any sense, it's just what seemed to work for me.

Actually, here's my one and only post at dmoz, stupid huh?

    Actual post

I'm the newest member to this busy community and just thought I'd say hi.

I've been reading many of the posts and site information but didn't see anything mentioning whether or not we are allowed to request reciprocal link exchanges with other member websites. If it's a problem then I apologize for this seemingly ignorant post.

[reciprocal request details removed by moderator -- in answer to your question above, no, this is not the place to be asking for reciprocal links with other sites]

    Sincerely,

    ken

This forum is only for questions concerning ODP aka DMOZ.

If you are looking for forums about website promotion I advice to look at http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/...ats_and_Forums/

Duke, DMOZ is a TOOL! Treat tools like TOOLS.

OK, what do you do (Tool question) with a power wedge?

BTW, why not submit yourself as an editor to the THOUSANDS of, "NO EDITOR" categories?

    Hmmmmm...

You may find what a dumb f'ing tool that directory is, my friend, but use it while it still works, as its days are numbered.

BTW, I have over 1000 posts at that forum, and you'll never, never know which moniker I go under.

    Heh Heh...

I actually thought about becoming an editor there but fortunately it passed quickly.
