I do not agree. If this was true then you could rank for the keyword 'internet' just by having a good and a quality content. According to Google pagerank is still a parameter in their algorithms, but it is heavily modify since the first version of the algorithm that is known to us.

I'm not sure what you mean. Please explain. If what you are saying is correct then no websites with page rank of zero could ever appear in the top positions in SERPs. And the SERPs listings would appear in page rank order to some extent.

You couldn't point me to where Google says this could you? A link would be great but just a general description of where you read it will do for me.

    Thanks.

Flex, if you have a PR5 for your site you should have some decent traffic (unless your PR5 comes from only a few links).

Surrey PC Support's advice was good. You need to read up on on-page optimisation. Before you worry about more links, get your site doing the best it can.

The PDF you can download here :
    google<dot>com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35291
is a good start, then search for

'Website Optimisation Basics' or 'Website Optimisation Tutorial'.

Make sure you read about 10 different guides and make notes. Then have a good look at your site and make a list of what you need to do to it.

Optimising your site the wrong way can cause problems, so DON'T OVERDO THE KEYWORDS and DON'T CHANGE YOUR URLS UNLESS YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

Always read your content out to yourself and others and check it doesn't sound like you're repeating words too much. Stick to the basics
    - good title tag
    - description tag that reads well to a human
    - text that reads well on the page
and you can't go far wrong.

SEO is a continuous process. If you want to stay on top then you have to continue building links. Back links helps you get into top rankings. Make to get back links on relevant and DoFollow sites.

If you don't optimise your site properly, then you need a lot more links to rank than you otherwise would.

SEO (optimisation) is the foundation upon which SEM (marketing) stands. If you haven't done it right then you might never rank, no matter how many links you have.

SERP is more important than PR because having a high rankings in google search results and other search engines for some competitive keywords would provide your site with more organic traffic.

Having a high PR doesn't necessarily mean that your site would also get high serp. PR is just one of the factors that is considered by google to rank websites.

If you are still struggling to get on page 1 after a month or two then try and choose less competitive keywords/phrases.

I am totally agree with you, and I too suggest you to go for targeting some good keywords so that, when you will do some Off Page optimization then, it will definitely rank in a good position of SERPS.

    Thanks!!
