If your website is an online store, then you need to choose a keyword that will be used by motivated buyers! For example your selling TVs online, you have very little chance of getting on the first page for 'TV' and if you do it could take years! Plus people searching TV are only in the browsing stage and are not yet ready to buy! So TV would not be a good keyword to target.
However if you where to target a keyword such as 'Sony HD42' there is a lot less searches however the people searching this are looking to buy straight away because they have already done all the research and know what they want. In addition there would be a lot less competition and you would be able to get on the first page pretty fast!
So to find the best keyword you need to look at your site content and products and decide what keywords motivated searches will use.![]()
