What is `Trackback`?

Although I`ve noticed this a number of times before, I really don`t have a clue what it means.

Can anyone explain its use please?

Track backs are where someone has linked to your blog and their blog is tracking back to you to let you know that you have been trackbacked.

In little bit more details...
First of all trackback has to be enabled on your blog.

When ever someone post link directly to the article page on your blog - you get notification that someone was talking about your article. If you approve that message it will show up as a comment to the article on your blog.

I am not sure if any website sends trackbacks but it works for sure with WordPress and vBulletin
