We are calling from xyz, we are currently placed number one on Google for the phrase 'yourservice, your area' and we are looking for a business to be promoted on that page.
Maybe I'm getting confused here but isn't that a lie? Do you have loads of number one positions for certain geo-targeted keywords (which would make you one of my companies competitors...grrrrr...!) which you then contact relevant companies to sell the position to?

I'm not having a go. Just confused by the principal of the product.

nope it is the absolute truth once we are #1 or fist page, we can make contact so the prospect can carry out the search live while our telesales person is on the phone.

THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS (worldwide) on niche sites and subdomains of niche sites

I know you are not having a go
The principle is simple. Many comapnies say "we can get you to number one" Our telesales can show them our page at #1 (or thereabouts) for the phrase they want, and simply ask so you want exclusive promotion on it, it or shall I call your competitor?

hard sell? ABSOLUTELY, but it is only hard as the proof is sat right in front of them and our sale people, so no need to fanny around with call backs etc for a couple of quid a month!

What sort of niche phrases are we talking about? Stuff like "plumber in Norwich"?
Im curious because i work for ufindus doing a very similar thing - seo on their niche directories. So you're kind of selling a prioritised directory listing?

it is at this point that I pull out of the thread LOL. kinda like that, but with the differenece that we only promote one of everyone. So lets say (going with your example) we were #1 for plumber in norwich, then we would only put one plumber there for that phrase kinda like prioritised, sorta maybe in a way but not in a way if you see what I mean.

Apologies for being cagey, but this is a business model that makes me money, and i don't go into specifics on my own money making sites, as I treat them as client sites, and they get afforded the same confidentiality as would a client

That's fair enough. I don't want to know how you do it, just what you're selling.

At some point i do want to work for myself so i like to talk to established seo businesses and see what packages they offer. You are the first person/company that I've spoken to who get the position before you get the client.

ONE of my sites would be in the trades you are talking about. I think that is Ok to say that.

I am a web marketer though not an SEO, I am just really good at SEO as I have been doing SEO/since before google came along, way back in the days of lycos, alltheweb, altavista etc. I understand sales and marketing, and what it is like to be a salesperson. I give my sales teams targets, once they hit their weekly/monthly target, they can do what they like, no need to come into work.

I want to make it easy for them tosell, but increadibly hard for them to leave. They get a monthly recurring % of ALL sales for as long as the clients remain with us. or until they leave. Once they leave, they lose the residual bonuses.
