Default Problem with AVI files on XP SP3 and Vista

I recently updated my Windows XP to the Servise Pak 3 and had no problems with it till today...

Someone gave me a disk with a movie in AVI format on it and I can not watch it.
All I get is the sound.
I tried 3 different players including Windows own MediaPlayer 11 with no luck.

I know for sure that I was able to watch this type of files before (I even have one movie stored on my hard drive and I watched it just few month back)

My friend just bought new Laptop with Vista Home on it and he could not watch AVI format either.

Anyone found solution to this problem yet?

    Thanks.

    Hi Skinner

Quite a few users have experienced this issue. Some thinks it's XP and some think it's WMP.

Try downloading this - http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/ and let me know how it goes.

    Hi Skinner

Quite a few users have experienced this issue. Some thinks it's XP and some think it's WMP.

Try downloading this - DivX Video Player - DivX Codec - DivX Converter - DivX Web Player - Download DivX for Windows and let me know how it goes.

Also, did you install any further updates from Windows Updates after the SP3 upgrade

    Thanks GKD,

After few hours of web search I came to the same option - installed DivX codec and now I can watch all video files again.
