    PHP is what the majority of the successfull well-known sites in the world run on. Tat being said, it's not necessarily the "best" choice, but it's the one that's most widely-used.

    That should tell you something. PHP is a good thing to know and use, if for no other reason that its widely used and supported. ASP might be a great language, but who uses it? A minority of people.

    If you want a free, solid, easy-to-learn platform - PHP on Apache.

    PHP seem to be more widely used than ASP, perhaps because it platform independent and not proprietary like ASP

    I prefer PHP as that was what I learned first and know the most of.
    ASP and .net are prefered in large business simply due to the support model. You dont get sacked for using an MS product where as using open source is not understood by non IT directors so can be constude as a risk...

    There are quite a lot of free resources and tutorials about PHP.
    ASP is out of date, and ASP.NET is pretty heavy.

    I like them both but I have some more knowledge about using ASP over Php.
