    Default LinkedIn?

Not sure if this is the right place to put this so apologies - but has anyone used (by joining) LinkedIn?

It was recommended to me at a session on online marketing I attended last week, but as soon as I joined it wanted to install a new version of Active X and check out my Outlook folders.

I was not sure if it was a good idea...

    Any comments/views much appreciated

    kind regards

    Stephanie

I have never heard of LinkedIn, I personally would not allow a site to install Active X on my computer. Its potentially dangerous to your computer well being.

An effective way to run a link exchagne is by installinga script on your site ... you can then invite prospective link exchange partners to add their site or you can add the partner's site manually.
You can see how I implimented link exchnage script for mone of my sites here: Golf Site Directory*

I use LinkedIn: Relationships Matter everyday... but only for professional matters.
It permits me to discover who my business partners know and... if interested they can introduce me to those people.
Furthermore it allows me to stay in touch with friends, colleages, customers, partners, ...

Has really nothing to do with SEO or website-stuff... but is a very nice tool.
Temi, with all the contacts you have... I think this can be a usefull tool.

I checked it out, its just like Eric described, its a sort of social networking site. It looks trustworthy, should be okay to install software from them in your outlook.

Linked in is more like a kind of Online Resume where you can post more info about yourself or your business. It probably will work best for freelancers or someone looking for job.

For the website promotion I don't think it's the right option...

you're completely right. Has nothing to do with webdesign or SEO. (just 1 free link )
But it's really great for "real world" business.
My company found and recruited 7 people through linkedIn...
