Default Best Practice on SEO for redirect site

    Hi,

I got a site was redirect from homepage to a sub-folder:

    xxyyzz >> http://www.xxyyzz.com/directory

What is the best SEO practice/way to do the above redirect? Should I using permanent (301) or temporary (302) redirect? My root/homepage have no any index file

    Thanks

Permanent 301 redirect is the best way, OWG did a post on this issue a while back, dig it out and read it

For SEO prospective a 301 redirect is the best option in this way the search engine will consider that you have permanently moved your contents to that new location and new location will get the credit of all your old location.

301 redirect is quite simple in the seo sites. It's a best method to preserve your current search engine rankings when redirecting web pages or a website.

    Two ways...

    DirectoryIndex in .htaccess

    or 301 redirect.

The 301 is meant to do what you need to do...so, that makes the most sense.
