I think FB and Twitter are enough for socializing, at least for the start.

I have account on almost 5 to 6 social networking sites and in my opinion twitter and identi.ca is best social networking sites.

I mainly use Twitter & Facebook....Twitter for business & hobby purposes, and Facebook for personal.

I tend to only follow Twitter users that live in my area - if you interact with them in a positive way they all know about you...it raises awareness - I don't pimp myself on there...I'd lose followers that way.
