Nothing works better than good old hand coded HTML, but there are also some nice tools and handy platforms such as wordpress for creating websites very quickly. If you want to do it yourself then don't feel discouraged as not everyone can learn HTML and CSS before they can have a half decent website.

PHP is a high level server side scripting language. PHP is used for creating results which we can embed with HTML. We can get information, save information, update information.

You should also always keep seo in mind when building your site, especially if your building from the ground floor up.

HTML does the job, and a good one of that, but I’m more of a PHP fan myself. PHP just feels a bit more secure, so I tend to lean that way.

Use appropriate images on your sites. Sometimes an image may look good but does it flow with the "themes" of the design.

While it is important that your website looks clean and professional to be a great website, it is far more important that you concentrate your efforts on the creating useful and unique contents backed by whole hearted promotion using ethical means to gain higher search engine ranking and large volume of relavent visitors.
If you want to design a professional looking website, the top most things to stay away from should includes:
    1. Flash intros, revolving globes, bevelled line separators, animated mail boxes
    2. Loads of pop up or pop under boxes
    3. Autoplay music. Allow your customer to play music only if they choose.
    4. Hit counters of the free variety, which say “you are 27th visitor”
    5. Date and time stamps, unless your website is updated daily or weekly
    6. Busy backgrounds.
Don’t sweat the small stuff and get yourself focussed on what to include on the website and the best way to promote it. We will cover these topics in future articles.
