Default Can you run a webhosting company...

    ...from your home?

Is there a way to get decent pricing for T1, T3, OC3 or higher connections? Is there a better way to connect to ensure decent pings?

    Thanks,

    Ken

Do you mean have the server box actually in your house or run it via a reseller account?? I am setting up a niche webhosting site as my next project and I also happen to have a friend thinking of getting a server set up in his new house here in Spain. I'll tell him about your interest.

Hello Ken, I'm the friend Matthews talking about.

Where are you? since I'm in spain (I'm guessing you're not) the infomation about decent pricing for different connections is probably going to be irrelevant, however, I am going to set up a server at home in August...

I actually live in Canada, pretty far away. I'd love to eventually start up my own webhosting company but looking at the figures for dedicated or shared, burstable T3 or OC3 lines is incredible. It's not uncommon to pay over $1000.00 / month which is way out of my price range.

Duke, whiy don't you go slowly slowly and do it via reselling first, then maybe you can make some money along the way and test out some ideas..that's what I'm doing. I had a serious disagreement or two with my hosting company here in Spain about some really simple customer service and tech things, stormed off in a huff around the internet and discovered reselling and a company called Rochen in the UK (www.rochenhost.com)

It's a really good set-up and, now I have got a couple of other projects going, my next one is to set up a niche hosting site for bloggers and online-communities. From the clients point of view, they don't know if you have a reseller account or three whole datacenters tucked up your sleeve (as long as you don't tell 'em)

Thanks for the suggestion matthew, I've been casually looking into a reseller program with decent bandwidth, haven't really found too much so far tho.

Check out Rochen, Duke, I'm really impressed so far. Have a read around their customer forums.

Thanks matt, ya they look and sound good but the bandwidth is still pretty low. I'd really love to get a reasonably priced reseller program that has at least 100GB / month, preferably more.
