    Default Tips for creating better website

    There are lots of simple tips that could help you create a better website, here are some I can think of, please add other tips to this tread.

    • It is considered bad to use slang or abbreviations in site descriptions such as €œinfo€, €œpics€, €œetc€ and €œbio€. Using the full and correct word does not only look and sound more professional but is also easier for the user whose native language may not be English. The correct use of words without abbreviation is therefore considered easier to understand or translate.
    • For accessibility reasons and for better search engine ranking, its it good practice to add alt tag to all the images on your site if possible or at least the most important images.
    • Every web designer have their favourite browsers, webmasters and web developers tends to us Firfox but majority of the Internet population use Internet Explorer, test you finished web development project in at least IE and Firefox, if you can test it in all browsers, that is even better.

    Just to contribute a few:

    At least insert empty alt tags for each picture (alt=""), which helps programs for blind or partially sighted users. They skip empty tags, but encounter problems with pictures, which do not have any alt tags.

    To avoid pictures "jumping" around always specify height and width attributes.

    Make sure the user needs as few clicks as possible in order to get to what he/she was looking for.

    Tips For Creating A Good Site:

    Colours & Style:
    Indeed one of the most important atributes lie in the design.
    The website needs to have clean style, good colours,
    Relevant to your company logo etc.
    Never have: Under Construction Signs Up!!!!
    Thats a NO!

    Banners and Pop Ups:
    Banners are ok, but have to be monitored and restricted to a certain age group.
    Pop ups! No body likes pop ups, so dont add a html code that will
    lead to a pop up.

    Images And Text:
    Good information about the product in a short sumarry wil be great, and for
    buyers intrest have a link for more information.
    People love images, so try not to have too many, or nothing at all.
    Try at least have 1 images per page.

    Untidy HTML
    People dont want to see some html string at the top of your page!
    Make sure you do a check and clean it out nicely. Its preffered to spend time
    through your cding, not to rush through, because if an error has to apear above the page, that already takes 10% proffesionality off your website and 50% profesionality if a designer portfolio.

    Well thats just the basics.
    For more intense tutorials, stay tuned to these forums.
    They will be posted as soon as possible.

    Great advice guys!

    Here is some from me about the Page Rank:

    Does Google Page Rank Matter?

    Well lets think about this for a minute, page rank tells the google spider your a important site, right? No not really, lots of sites with low page ranks are number 1 through the net. Page rank is simply determined by how many relevant and inbound links are pointing to your site. If its not a relevant link its a trash link which can hurt you!

    Now that’s not to say looking at your google toolbar with the page rank isn’t helpful! In fact it is. If you have a good page rank that means your linking efforts are working correctly. But going by the google toolbar page rank which is not accurate and fluctuates all the time is not the best way to discover your page rank. The best way to get your accurate page rank is to visit SEO Solutions - SEO Expert - SEO Forum - (Powered by CubeCart) and send them a email about giving you your real page rank. They are happy to do it and its the real page rank! Not one the goes up and down with no warning.

    Now the best way to get a high page rank is to get quality links from other sites that have lots of relevant links to it. I jumped from pr 0 to 2 in just 2 weeks! My site is

    So all in all, page rank by the google toolbar doesn’t say a lot for your site, but quality links that are relevant do!

    Default 6 Tips for your Site Design

    * WRITTING AN ATTRACTIVE HEADLINE

    Your headline is the *MOST* IMPORTANT part of your site! The first thing they should see is a headline that clearly states the biggest benefit your site has to offer. Your headline should be located at the very top center of your page in a larger font size that naturally attracts attention. And it should tell visitors exactly how your site will make their lives easier... save them money... save them time.. provide additional income... or simply make them feel better. Use bolding, italics, and highlighting to emphasize the main benefits in your headline, so they leap out and grab your visitors' attention.

    * CREATE BENEFIT-DRIVEN SALESCOPY THAT WILL COMPEL YOUR VISITORS
    TO BUY

    Your salescopy has to introduce your product, explain the benefits of using it, and sell potential buyers on the value of your offer. When you write your salescopy, you need to speak directly to your visitors' needs -- and you need to focus on the BENEFITS of using your product (as opposed to your product's features). If you're having trouble telling a benefit from a feature, here's an example: a feature of a product might be "sturdy polished aluminum construction." The benefit would be "lasts longer so you save money on replacement costs."

    * FOLLOW ESTABLISHED DESIGN PRINCIPLES

    When you're designing the look of your site, choose a simple color scheme and a couple of fonts and stick with them. Nothing looks more amateurish than a mishmash of many different fonts and colors. Also, resist the urge to add textures or use dark backgrounds. People don't come to your site to admire your elaborate design scheme. They want to know about your offer. That's why you need to make sure they can easily read your salescopy. Also, avoid using unnecessary graphics and images. Unless your image is serving a direct purpose (a picture of you, a product shot, etc.), it's going to take attention away from your sales message. Same goes for animation, audio and video.

    * INCLUDE A STRONG CALL TO ACTION

    Don't make your visitors guess what they're supposed to do on your site. You must give them a strong call to action and tell them exactly what you want them to do!

    * ESTABLISH YOUR CREDIBILITY

    One of the best ways to establish your credibility is to list your accomplishments, qualifications, and experience -- so long as they're related to your offer. Once you've sold some product and are getting testimonials from satisfied customers, be sure to include them on your site as well.
